Our society is experiencing a waste crisis. The economy as we know it – based on a linear system: take, make and throw away – has had its time, but now we need to move to a circular economy, where waste is prevented and products reused or recycled.
In the past five years, the European Parliament was able to do a lot for the transition to a more circular economy through legislation:
Jean-Pierre Schweitzer commented on the link between policies and individuals actions.
Placing too much responsibility on citizens can often be a diversion tactic of industries that are reluctant to address pollution at source and really change their own behavior.
Piotr Barczak told us about solutions that are already available:
Our governments should reward those who make zero-waste choices when buying products. It is only fair to reduce the financial burden on those who do the right thing for the planet.

Wenn den Bürgern zu viel Verantwortung übertragen wird, kann dies oft eine Ablenkungstaktik der Industrie sein, die sich ungern mit der Bekämpfung der Umweltverschmutzung an der Quelle auseinandersetzen und wirklich ihr eigenes Verhalten verändern möchte.
Piotr Barczak erzählte uns von bereits verfügbaren Lösungen:
Unsere Regierungen sollten diejenigen belohnen, die beim Kauf auf besonders plastikfreie und unverpackte Produkte achten. Es ist nur fair, die finanzielle Belastung derer zu reduzieren, die das Richtige für den Planeten tun.
